In Our CSA Box

Friday is our CSA day.  We go to our local farmer's market and usually wait around for a half hour or so until they get organized (no matter what time we get there, they are never organized....) and pick up our box.

We've been getting a lot of great stuff - lots of fruit this summer too!

This week we got some of these:

I don't know what to do with them.  The only thing I know about beets is that I always used to mistake them for spiced apples at salad bars.  And it did not make me happy.

So, what do I do with my beets this week?

  4. My grannie used to always pickle them. As a kid, I always wanted one...because they were purple. But when I actually got it in my mouth, I decided I didn't want them anymore. I guess I was a slow learner because our family photo albums are FULL of pictures of me eating-or spitting out-pickled beets!

  5. I'm so jealous that you have a good farmer's market in your area. We have one up the street but it's more of a street fair type thing with only one vegetable booth and they are soooo expensive. I was looking for other CSA's in our area but most of them seem to be up towards LA or down closer to your area!

I've never cooked or even been much of a beet fan myself all I know about them is that I have a girlfriend who turns bright red every time she eats um!
