Two years ago, we built a fantastic pond in our backyard. We've had our issues with it, but it's been such a great addition to the yard.
This weekend we turned it into a wishing well! You see, the pond sits under a eucalyptus tree, which is very messy. The shade keeps the tree from shedding into the pond and also keeps the sun from creating loads and loads of algae.
The posts are attached to the pond at the "corners", but the pond is kidney shaped. Have you ever seen a corner on a kidney? Questions I shouldn't ask. Anyway... we made the roof rectangular and overhang the pond with The Mr's clever carpentry.
We had to do some thinking outside of the box - the axle is a fence post. And we had to build our own handle (don't tell anyone, it's fake!)
The pump in our pond had enough spare capacity to be able to pump the water into the pail, so we didn't have to buy another pump.
This was one of the more inexpensive backyard things we have ever done. Less than $20 in lumber, about that much in fasteners (screws and the like), $15 for the pail and $30 for the shade (90% of which is still available for us to use in the next project).
Our first wish? A wooden pail! Anyone have any idea where to get an inexpensive one?

ReplyDeleteAs an ex-Californian, "eucalyptus leaves" are two of my least-favorite words! They sure don't mix with water--your poor pond. Turning it into a wishing well is a brilliant solution though and I love the way it turned out!
